James contacted me as he needed some code adding to his Squarespace website. The tasks he needed completing were:

  1. Stop users being able to right click > save as image on his image heavy website.

  2. Go through the site thoroughly and check for anything that may be impacting the performance.

I started with the custom code needed to stop users being able to so easily save images from the website. The client understood there’s no way to completely stop this from happening (there’s tools that allow you to screenshot pages for example), but by removing this option it can act as a deterrent. We didn’t want to completely disable right click as this can negatively impact SEO and site accessibility (by not allowing screen readers or translations etc.) so it was important to code it so it just removed the ‘save as image’ option. With this in place I checked the code worked across all devices.

Next I went through the site on both desktop and mobile to see what was impacting performance and what could be improved. I ran various performance tests (be wary doing this, some performance test websites are great for sites coded from scratch but not website builders such as Squarespace - it can throw false negatives).

With the results in, I added in page title tags, rearranged mobile pages and ensured they were correctly formatted and went through all the custom code previously written into the site to ensure it was written in the most efficient way.

I enjoyed working with James and will continue to work with him in the future as we delve deeper into Google Analytics and his site.
